CASE STUDY IN SUSTAINABILITY ANALYSIS FOR EDM
Abstract
The paper analyses a generic EDM process in terms of its environmental impact, carbon balance and occupational health and safety risks. Various cases are tested and discussed based on simulations and mathematical modelling to determine their viability and possible interpretations. The efficiency and the sustainability of the process are linked with assessing the occupational, health and safety (OHS) risks that employees face. The results of the paper show that a mature and capable EDM process can reduce the risks that the employees face within the manufacturing environment. This investigation addresses the broader question of how sustainability can be leveraged as a strategy to enhance both operational outcomes and employee safety and security.
